Choosing the Music for Your LGBTQ2S+ Wedding

At inTUNE, we love being part of LGBTQ2S+ wedding celebrations! We know that it is essential to have an inclusive mix of music so that you and your guests enjoy the dance floor.  From songs that have personal meaning to you as a couple to well known LGBTQ2S+ anthems, we work with you to create the right atmosphere for you and your loved ones to dance the night away.

Ceremony Music

Your ceremony music vibe is as unique as you are. We often see non-traditional music choices, such as genres or specific songs that are important to you as a couple, or instrumental versions of pop songs.

At LGBTQ2S+ weddings, we typically see both partners walk down the aisle. This is an opportunity for each of you to choose a song you like, or if you would like to walk together then choose a song that’s important to you as a couple.

Song Ideas:

  • Simply the Best - Noah Reid (from Schitt’s Creek)

  • Make You Feel My Love - Adele

  • Marry Me - Train

Celebrating Your Individuality

Your wedding is an opportunity to celebrate you! We encourage you to incorporate music that reflects your individuality and songs that are meaningful to you as a couple. This can include music you like to listen to together, songs that remind you of special moments in your relationship, and personal favourites that make you feel empowered. For music choices that are less well known or that aren’t easy to dance to, consider incorporating them during cocktail hour or dinner.

Song Ideas:

  • Chappell Roan – Red Wine Supernova

  • Britney Spears – Gimme More

  • Disclosure ft. Sam Smith - Latch

  • Robyn – Dancing on my Own

  • Harry Styles - Music for a Sushi Restaurant

  • Tegan & Sara – Closer

First Dance Songs

Your first dance song is your opportunity to think outside the box! Is there a song that is meaningful to the two of you? Maybe there is a song that describes your relationship journey. There are lots of songs by LGBTQ2S+ artists and songs with gender-inclusive language for you to choose from.

Song Ideas:

  • Your Song - Elton John

  • Thinking Out Loud - Ed Sheeran

  • At Last - Etta James

LGBTQ2S+ Anthems for the Dance Floor

There are so many amazing anthems that will bring all of your guests to the dance floor, while also celebrating individuality, inclusivity, and community. There are so many anthems to choose from across the decades, so pick the ones that you love and that fit the age range of your guests.

Song Ideas:

  • Cher - Believe

  • Madonna – Express Yourself

  • Lady Gaga – Born This Way

  • Queen - I Want to Break Free

  • Beyonce – Love on Top

Dance Music for Everyone

Depending on the variety of loved ones on your guest list, it’s important to create a mix of music that will appeal to everyone. Our DJs create a balance between amazing anthems and well-known hits that everyone will love. We also follow the mood of the dance floor and take requests from your guests, so we can play music that will keep everyone on the dance floor all night.

Song Ideas:

  • ABBA – Dancing Queen

  • Spice Girls – Wannabe

  • Shania Twain – Man! I Feel Like a Woman!

  • Rihanna - Don't Stop the Music

  • Whitney Houston – I Wanna Dance with Somebody

Collaboration is Key

From your initial consultation to the last dance on your wedding day, we work with you to choose music that fits your taste and identity, represents your unique love story, and creates a fun celebration for you and your loved ones. We are happy to highlight LGBTQ2S+ artists, incorporate beloved anthems, focus on songs with inclusive language, and also balance hits that will appeal to all of your guests.

It is an important part of inTUNE’s wedding planning process to get to know you and your love story, and to ensure we are capturing your unique music vision. We are also happy to arrange a chat with your DJ before the wedding day so that you feel comfortable with the person bringing music to your special day, and your DJ gets to know you and your music taste.
